Creating Memories in Costa Rica: A Wedding with a Time Capsule

Costa Rica is a fantastic place for creating memories with your favorite people. There’s a reason so many people come to this beautiful country every year to express their love for one another and share this special moment with their closest friends and family.

Bayley and Jake are one such couple, and they took things one step further. Read on to learn about the special touch they added to their gorgeous destination wedding!

The Couple

Bayley and Jake are amazing! Their love for each other and for their family and friends just poured out of everything they did.

It was very important to them that I capture as much genuine emotion of the day as possible. The day was full of love and joy and they wanted that reflected in their photographs.

I love seeking out those little moments when the bride laughs at her groom’s silly antics or a tear slips from a parent’s eye. In fact, Bayley and Jake made it a point to tell me to take pictures of anyone who cried.

The Time Capsule

I’ve been photographing weddings for nearly 2 decades now so I’ve seen a lot of awesome wedding traditions. This is one that I thought was extra special.

Bayley and Jake had an intimate ceremony with 16 people in attendance. So as part of the ceremony, they asked the officiant to invite all the attendees up to the altar. They came with little mementos that were special to them and the happy couple.

All these mementos were placed into a time capsule and the guests offered a few words about the item and what it means to them. Some also included a few words of wisdom or hopes for Bayley and Jake’s future.

The Party

The ceremony was special for Bayley and Jake, but the party was where it was at! Bayley and Jake (or Jayley as I heard them being called) really wanted a special time and the party was where it happened.

They had all the usual speeches and first dances but also some games where the friendly competition really got going. And at one point, everybody jumped into the pool with the bride and groom!

The next day we had a Day After Session so we could get some creative photographs without having to take Bayley and Jake away from their friends and family on the actual wedding day. We also got the amazing, early morning light.

A great time was had by all and they did a fantastic job of creating memories on this special day in Costa Rica!
