A lot of people have a rough idea but arenât sure if itâs possible. If it is, I help make it happen. If you have no idea yet, Iâll walk you through some options based on who you both are as a couple.
And that matters more than most people realize. I want to know about the partner being proposed to â their personality, what they love, how they like to experience things. A waterfall proposal sounds incredible, but if your partner hates mud and slippery rocks and wants to look perfect, that might not be the right spot for them. There are two ways I usually work with couples for a surprise proposal. The first is within a portrait session â one partner tells the other they found a photographer and thought it would be fun to do photos at a waterfall or on the beach. During the session, I create a natural space for the proposal to happen. The second is the classic approach â I arrive at the location early, blend into the background, and capture the moment from a distance. Afterwards I introduce myself, explain everything, and we transition into a short portrait session in the glow of the moment.
Either way, I go to the location beforehand and send you iPhone photos and videos â hereâs where you park, hereâs what it looks like when you walk in, hereâs where Iâll be, hereâs where you propose. No confusion, no fear of being in the wrong spot. You can focus on what you need to do.

La Fortuna â La Fortuna offers volcano views and a great waterfall. If you are looking for a proposal with a view of the volcano, then you should try to stay at a hotel with a good view. If you would like to have your proposal at the Fortuna waterfall, you can stay anywhere, and just show up at the waterfall.

Best Time of Day for a Proposal in Costa Rica
Timing plays a role but it doesnât need to be complicated. Early morning and late afternoon give you softer light and fewer people around, which helps the moment feel more relaxed and private.
In Guanacaste especially, late afternoon into sunset is hard to beat. The light is warm, the beaches are less crowded, and the timing works perfectly for dinner afterwards. But more important than perfect light is choosing a time that feels natural â so the proposal doesnât feel forced or rushed.
