Weddings at Casa de Luz, Playa Langosta
Casa de Luz sits right on Playa Langosta, about a five-minute drive from Tamarindo. It’s a private beachfront villa with eight bedrooms, and when you rent it for a wedding the whole property is yours for the week. I’ve photographed multiple weddings here and it’s one of the venues I recommend most for families who want to actually be together — not just for the wedding day, but for the whole trip.
Getting Ready at Casa de Luz
The house is big enough that both partners can get ready in separate rooms with no chance of seeing each other before the first look. What I love about the rooms is the light. The last wedding I photographed there, I had other photographer friends asking how I got such clean images. The answer was the room itself — good natural light coming through in a really perfect way, and nothing cluttered or distracting in the background. It makes the getting ready photographs look really nice.
One thing that makes Casa de Luz different from a regular wedding venue is that the whole family is there during getting ready. While the couple is in their rooms, you have parents and siblings and close friends just hanging out in the main living room or out in the garden. They’re part of the wedding too, and I’m always catching those little moments — someone helping with a veil, a dad sitting quietly before he walks his daughter down the aisle, a group of friends laughing in the kitchen. Those photographs end up being some of the most meaningful ones from the whole day.
The Ceremony Spot
The ceremony spot at Casa de Luz is really well thought out. It’s on the sand right in front of the beach, but tucked in under the trees before you get to the main beach. That matters for a couple of reasons. Playa Langosta has a steep grade — at high tide the main beach basically disappears, which makes a ceremony there complicated. The ceremony area at Casa de Luz avoids all of that. It’s shaded, so your guests aren’t squinting into the sun the whole time, and it’s a big enough space to accommodate larger weddings comfortably.
Portraits at Casa de Luz and Playa Langosta
After the ceremony, there’s a lot to work with for portraits. There’s a wooden bridge just a minute’s walk from the property that I use regularly — sometimes for the first look, sometimes for couple portraits, sometimes for family groups. Within a short walk of the house, you get a really nice variety: the bridge, the tree line, the beach itself. Playa Langosta is a beautiful beach for portraits when the light is good. At low tide there are also tide pools nearby that make for an interesting backdrop, and most visitors never find them.
The Reception
Receptions at Casa de Luz happen outside by the pool. There’s a large area between the house and the beach where they set up string lights, and the first dance happens out to the side. The DJ or band can be set up outside, so all the celebrating happens under the stars. It looks really good at night with the pool and the lights and the ocean right there.
The house does have an indoor area in case it rains, and in the rainy season you can set up outdoor tents for covered protection while still being outside. I’ve never had a reception at Casa de Luz that felt like it was missing anything.
Who Casa de Luz Is Right For
Casa de Luz is the right venue for families who want to spend the whole week together, not just the wedding day. Venues like Pangas or Langosta Beach Club are wedding venues — you show up, have the event, and go back to wherever you’re staying. Casa de Luz is where you’re staying. That changes the whole feel of the week. Your guests are waking up together, having breakfast together, spending the days at the pool and on the beach together. By the time the wedding day arrives, everyone is already relaxed and connected.
It works best for smaller to medium-sized weddings. The property accommodates up to around 80 guests for the event, and can sleep up to 24 people on-site. If you’re planning a small or intimate celebration, it’s one of the best options in the Tamarindo area.
Real Weddings at Casa de Luz
I recently photographed Alex and Matt’s wedding at Casa de Luz — a small July celebration with 14 guests, wild waves on the beach, and one of the best sunset skies I’ve seen there. The whole wedding spontaneously walked back down to the beach when the sky turned dark orange after the first dance. Casa de Luz is about an hour from Liberia International Airport, which is the main airport for Guanacaste.
