Tamarindo is one of the most popular places in Costa Rica for destination weddings. I photograph weddings here regularly at venues like Pangas Beach Club, Langosta Beach Club, Cala Luna, and Hacienda Pinilla. The Tamarindo Wedding Area
From Playa Junquillal to Las Catalinas
When couples say they want a Tamarindo wedding, they usually mean somewhere along this stretch of coast — from Playa Junquillal in the south up to Las Catalinas in the north.
Tamarindo is the hub, but the venues I photograph most are spread across that whole area.
Each of these locations offers a slightly different wedding atmosphere.
Tamarindo itself is a real town — bars, restaurants, surf shops, everything walkable. Playa Langosta is just a couple miles south and feels completely different — quieter, more relaxed, great sunsets. Flamingo is about 30 minutes north with good restaurants and a marina. Las Catalinas is further north and very secluded. Each one gives your guests a different kind of week.
Planning a Tamarindo Destination Wedding
Most couples start by deciding what kind of week they want their guests to have. That usually leads to the venue, not the other way around. Tamarindo has options for almost every style — a beachfront restaurant where everything happens in one place, a boutique hotel where guests stay together, a private villa for a multi-day celebration, or a resort for a larger group.
Liberia Airport is about an hour away, which makes Tamarindo one of the easiest places in Costa Rica for destination wedding guests to get to. Most people are on the beach within an hour of landing.

The Tamarindo area offers several different types of wedding venues, and choosing the right one often depends on the style of destination wedding you want to create.
Beachfront restaurants like Pangas and Langosta Beach Club work well when you want the ceremony and reception in one place — no shuttling guests around.
Boutique hotels like Cala Luna give guests a place to stay together, which changes the whole feel of the weekend.
Private villas like Casa de Luz are good for couples who want a multi-day celebration where everyone is under the same roof.

Pangas Beach Club | Tamarindo Wedding Venue
Beachfront restaurant with sunset ceremonies and estuary views
Pangas sits at the north end of Tamarindo Beach where the estuary meets the ocean. The ceremony happens right on the sand, the reception is at the restaurant just steps away, and the sunset view from there is one of the best in Tamarindo. Everything happens in one place — no moving guests around.
It’s a smaller venue, which means more personal service. The staff there knows how to run a wedding well. I’ve photographed a lot of weddings at Pangas and it always goes smoothly.

Cala Luna Boutique Hotel
Boutique hotel in Playa Langosta — intimate, laid back, close to Tamarindo
Cala Luna is in Playa Langosta, just a couple of miles from Tamarindo. It’s a good option for couples who want the convenience of being near Tamarindo but prefer a more laid-back beach and a more intimate setting. Langosta has grown into a cool little beach town in the past few years — there’s good food, quieter beaches, and it doesn’t feel as busy as Tamarindo itself.
Because Cala Luna is a hotel property, many wedding guests choose to stay there for the entire weekend. This creates a destination wedding experience where everyone spends several days together before and after the ceremony.

Langosta Beach Club | Tamarindo Wedding Venue
Oceanfront venue perfect for sunset beach ceremonies
Langosta Beach Club sits on a quiet cove in Playa Langosta. The ceremony happens right on the sand, guests move into the open-air restaurant for dinner, and sunset portraits happen just steps away along the beach. It’s a simple, clean flow with no complicated logistics.
It works well for smaller, more intimate weddings. The beach at Langosta is quieter than Tamarindo and the sunsets there are really good.

Casa de Luz
Private beachfront villa on Playa Langosta — the whole property is yours
Casa de Luz is right on Langosta Beach — each bedroom faces the ocean, and you walk directly from the main living area onto the sand. Since it’s a private villa, you have the whole property to yourself. The ceremony, portraits, and reception all happen in the same space.
It’s on Playa Langosta, which is just a couple of miles from Tamarindo. Your guests are close to the restaurants and bars in town but on a quieter, more relaxed beach. That’s a good combination for a wedding week.

Tamarindo Diria Beach Resort
Full-service resort in the center of Tamarindo — right in the middle of the action
Tamarindo Diria is right in the center of Tamarindo, right in the middle of the beach. It’s a very comfortable hotel for guests who are visiting Costa Rica for the first time. Everything is walkable — restaurants, shops, the beach. They even have what I think is the best ice cream in Tamarindo right there.
Because it’s in the middle of everything, it can feel busy, but that’s also the point. This is a good option if you and your guests want to be right in the middle of the action.
Capitán Suizo | Tamarindo Wedding Venue
Intimate beachfront boutique hotel ideal for smaller weddings
Capitán Suizo is at the quiet south end of Tamarindo beach, away from the busier part of town. It’s a boutique hotel that’s been family-owned since 1992 — lush tropical gardens, howler monkeys on the property, a beachfront restaurant, and really attentive service. It has a calm, personal feel that bigger resorts don’t have.
It works best for smaller, intimate weddings. If your guests want a relaxed beachfront experience with a boutique feel rather than a big resort, this is worth looking at.
Which Tamarindo Venue Is Right for You?
Tamarindo offers several different types of wedding venues, and each one creates a slightly different experience for a destination wedding.
The main difference between venues in Tamarindo comes down to how much of the week you want to spend together. A beachfront restaurant is one day, one night. A villa or boutique hotel is a whole week.
Both work — it just depends on what matters most to you and your guests.
Other Wedding Areas to Consider Near Tamarindo
Tamarindo is the hub, but the coastline around it has a lot more to offer. From Las Catalinas in the north down to Hacienda Pinilla and Reserva Conchal in the south, there are venues and beaches that most couples never find because they focus on the town itself.

Tamarindo Elopements and Small Weddings
Tamarindo works really well for elopements and micro weddings. The beach is right there, you don’t need permits, and you can have a meaningful ceremony with just the two of you or a small group.
I’ve photographed a lot of elopements in this area and the simplicity of it is often what couples love most about it.
A Typical Tamarindo Wedding Timeline
Everything in Tamarindo is built around the sun going down. Getting ready, the ceremony, family portraits, couple portraits — we want all of that done before the sun goes down. The balance is not starting too early when it’s too hot, and not starting so late that we run out of light before portraits are done.
The right ceremony time depends on the size of your wedding. A large wedding with a lot of family portraits needs to start earlier. A small elopement can start much closer to sunset. I help couples work this out once we know their date and guest count.
One thing people notice when they arrive in Guanacaste is the wind. It cools you off in the evening, keeps the bugs away, and makes outdoor receptions genuinely comfortable. The evenings here are one of the best things about getting married in this area — warm enough to be outside, cool enough to actually enjoy it.
Travel and Guest Logistics
Another reason Tamarindo is such a popular destination wedding location is its proximity to Liberia International Airport. Most international flights arrive there, and the drive to Tamarindo usually takes about one hour.
Guests can travel by shuttle, rental car, or private transfer. This convenience makes Tamarindo easier for destination weddings than many more remote areas in Costa Rica.
