Maria Fernanda and Carlos | Playa Penca Engagement Proposal

A woman with long hair hugs a smiling man wearing glasses from behind during their Playa Penca engagement proposal. Both stand outdoors in light-colored clothes, with trees and a white fence blurred in the background.
A woman in a sleeveless, white V-neck dress stands at the edge of the sea with water around her feet at Playa Penca. Her hands rest gently on her abdomen, set against calm ocean waves—a serene scene perfect for an engagement proposal.

A Surprise Proposal at Playa Penca in Potrero

Carlos surprised Maria Fernanda with a proposal at Playa Penca in Potrero, Guanacaste. It’s a quiet beach, and it’s one of my favorites on this part of the coast.

Why Playa Penca in Potrero Works for a Proposal

Playa Penca is a way less crowded beach. If you get there early enough, it will just be a couple of people walking their dogs or older people getting their exercise in. It’s also a long beach, so there’s room to walk around and get a lot of variety in the images. That’s why it’s on my list of the best beaches near Tamarindo. It’s right next to Playa Potrero and Las Catalinas.

The Proposal Session

Carlos contacted me a few weeks ahead to plan the surprise. We picked a time with good light, and I was already in place on the beach before Maria Fernanda got there. When Carlos got down on one knee, she was completely surprised.

After the proposal, we kept going with engagement portraits along the beach. Playa Penca is so pretty that I didn’t have to pose them much.

A lot of couples who propose in Potrero end up getting married nearby. Bahia del Sol is right on Playa Potrero, just down the coast from Playa Penca.
