Alex and Matt

Alex and Matt got married at Casa de Luz on Playa Langosta. Fourteen people, perfect weather, and a one of a kind sunset after the clouds rolled out.

The morning started with everyone a little anxious about the sky. It had been cloudy all morning and looked like it might rain. It didn’t. We were able to celebrate everything outside as was planned.

Getting ready had a really good energy to it. Alex’s bouquet wrap was made from her mom’s wedding dress fabric. One of those details you don’t notice until someone tells you, and then you can’t stop thinking about it.

For the first look, Alex and Matt met outside and had their moment together. Afterwards, they each pulled out an instant camera that prints the photo right there on the spot and took pictures of each other. It was something they had planned, and it was really fun to watch. After that, Alex realized she had forgotten her veil before the first look. So we went back inside, and her mom and her best friend helped her put it on. That became its own moment.

Then came the first look with Alex and her dad. It was a very emotional first look for her father. I always get emotional at those moments too. Because I have a daughter I can’t help imagining me at this moment in my daughter’s wedding. And during the speeches later, Alex’s dad mentioned that it didn’t seem that long ago that she was playing in her Barbie car. A few days before this wedding, I had just bought my daughter a car for her Barbies on a trip to Argentina so it really got me.

The ceremony was on the beach at Casa de Luz. At one point, Alex realized she had forgotten her vow book. Her best friend had to run back into the house to get it, which made everyone laugh. The sand ceremony was one of the nicest I’ve seen. I still don’t know how they designed it, but the pattern they created in the sand was really beautiful.

After the ceremony we headed down to the beach for portraits. The waves that day were raging. They were really high and crashing hard. The tide was up too, so getting from one part of the beach to another was an adventure. There were moments where we were navigating around the water just to find a patch of sand and this made for some great photographs. Alex and Matt were completely relaxed about it. They wanted fun and natural, not posed and serious, and the beach gave us exactly that. Playa Langosta is great for these kind of portraits.

We finished the beach session and came back up for the first dance at 6:00. When we were setting up for the first dance the sky started turning this dark orange and red. Without missing a beat, the whole wedding went back down to the beach. All 14 people, just walking down to stand in that light together. With a wedding this small, you can do that. We knew we would get to the first dance when it was time. We were able to make some photographs that really captured that feeling of being there.

The reception was out by the pool at Casa de Luz. Speeches, dinner, dancing. The whole group closed out the night together in a spot that felt like it was built for exactly this kind of celebration. The last photograph of the night was the whole group, 14 people, showing off the venue behind them. It was the perfect last photograph of the night.
