The Costa Rica Nantucket Connection

For the past 3 years I have been going to Nantucket to photograph weddings with my friend Katie Kaizer. We met ten years ago at Foundation Workshops, and have been friends and colleagues ever since. We have opposite busy seasons so it works our perfectly – I go up to Nantucket to help her a couple weeks during the rainy season in Costa Rica, and she plans to come down this winter photograph wedding in Costa Rica.

Every time I visit Nantucket, I see this isn’t the only Costa Rica – Nantucket connection. There seems to be so many families from Nantucket who go down and spend the winter in Costa Rica. Likewise, the last wedding I shot in Nantucket, the groom’s mother was from Costa Rica!

This time I was up in Nantucket, I had more time, and had the chance to photograph Katie with her family at Surfside beach just steps from their family home. It was great to be able to capture these family moments in their element, as the kids have been going to this beach since they were in strollers.

We didn’t have a sunset with the sun touching the water that day, but we did have some amazing colors in the sky. As the sunsets up north happen much later, the little ones were tuckered out after the session, and it was time to get them home.

I’ll be back up to Nantucket next year for sure. It is such an amazing community and environment!
