A Dream Destination for the Wedding She Never Dreamed Of
What’s your dream destination? If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go? If you could get married anywhere in the world, where would you do it?
Monica let me know right off the bat that she was not one of those brides who have had their wedding planned in their head since they were 13. She hadn’t daydreamed about what her day would look like and she hadn’t fantasized about the perfect dress or how she would do her hair.
Even without all the advance planning, Monica and Ariel’s wedding was gorgeous. How couldn’t it be? After all, they had picked one of the best dream destinations in the world for their nuptials.

A Camera Shy Bride
The lack of childhood wedding daydreams wasn’t the only thing Monica wanted me to know from the start. She also mentioned that she does not being the center of attention, is not a fan of dressing up, and is not super crazy about having her photo taken.
Of course, all of these things are par for the course on your wedding day. So she wanted a photographer who could understand how she felt and would work with her.
I felt honored that she would entrust me with such an important job.
If you’ve read anything about me, you know how much I enjoy seeking out real moments with my camera. Yes I take the posed shots, but my favorites are the candid ones or the ones where I manage to capture real emotions. To do this I often use prompts or give people fun little games to do. This helps take their mind off the camera and helps them to relax and show real emotion.
During the wedding day we let Monica focus on enjoying the day with Ariel and her loving family and not having to worry about posing for the camera. Monica made a radiant bride who looks like a natural in front of the camera.
Monica and Ariel were first introduced to Costa Rica when they visited the country with friends in 2014. They were enamored with the country and have been trying to plan a trip back ever since. Most importantly, they wanted to share the experience with their children.
Life kept getting in the way and the trip kept getting postponed. Thus, the wedding presented itself as the perfect opportunity to visit again and bring their kids to see the place they had fallen in love with 5 years before.
They opted to stay at and hold the wedding at the Villa Punto de Vista. This is my favorite wedding venue to photograph at. It has interesting architecture as well as fabulous views of both the rainforest and the ocean.
Having a wedding in Costa Rica is the stuff dreams are made of. Though Costa Rica is a tiny country making up only 0.03% of the world’s landmass, it is home to almost 6% of the world’s biodiversity.
The beauty of Costa Rica makes it a dream destination for anyone, regardless of whether you’ve been planning your wedding since childhood or not.
